Hi, I’m Maggie Gerth, and I designed a new kind of suitcase called Props Luggage, which has legs that allow it to transform into a luggage rack, or if necessary, a small table or desk for busy travelers.

I started designing the prototype for Props Luggage before the pandemic. Then, in March 2020, as global travel came to a complete halt, I found myself designing a suitcase in a world where travel was paused.

However, I decided to take advantage of this grand pause to perfect my product. In 2022, I finally launched Props Luggage and have since won several awards for my innovations. I now look forward to getting my game-changing suitcases into as many jet-setting hands as possible.

What makes your business unique?

Props Luggage stands out in the luggage industry as the first to offer a suitcase with a built-in leg system. This innovation eliminates the need for a luggage rack in hotel rooms and provides a convenient eating or work surface while waiting at airport gates.

What’s your hardest hurdle and were you able to overcome it?

Our top challenge has been understanding that launching an innovative product takes time. After years of development, the sales and marketing process proved to be more difficult than anticipated.

However, we have addressed this by adopting a patient, steady approach and accepting the gradual nature of growth.

Were there any significant personal situations that negatively impacted your business decisions?

Yes, personal financial situations have significantly influenced our business decisions. Self-funding the project has been challenging, requiring us to forego certain necessities that were beyond our budget.

What can you say to other startup entrepreneurs?

My biggest tip for other startup entrepreneurs is to ask many questions and surround yourself with trusted individuals. Confidence in your team is crucial, especially when navigating unfamiliar industry terrain.

What keeps you inspired even during your darkest days?

On my darkest days, I find inspiration by stepping away from work to do something for myself or spending time with family and friends.

Taking breaks is essential to maintain perspective and motivation, especially when it’s your own project.
